At the request of David Ben-Gurion and Golda Meir— and in spite of embargoes in the region— planes, arms and ships were secretly purchased and transported to Palestine.

Though it was illegal in the US, many young men and women volunteered to fight in Israel’s War of Independence.  Their amazing stories depicting the birth of the State of Israel are featured in this film.

 

International Jewish and non-Jewish volunteers, numbering over 4000, from over 58 countries—along with the financiers who funded the operation— rallied support around the world for the defense of the newborn state. After the horrors of the Holocaust there was no other choice, no second chance.
